10. Sugary coffee drinks
You're not the only one who has to drink coffee (or two) to function or think about going to work or talking to a colleague in the morning. Millions of us reach for the coffee maker every morning, groggy and bleary-eyed. Whistle! We are awake and ready to face the day.
Coffee is not inherently unhealthy. In fact, it is rich in antioxidants, which help improve our mood and keep us healthy.
The amount of calories we consume depends on how we choose to drink our coffee. If we drink extra-large cups of coffee with high-calorie dairy milks, high-calorie nut milks, sugar, and manufactured syrups, we are consuming a lot of calories.
We may be setting ourselves up to exceed our caloric intake for the day if we consume one of these fancy coffees along with another unhealthy breakfast option. On the other hand, if we only eat black coffee for breakfast, we are not only in a calorie deficit, feeling with less energy, but we are also missing out on the important nutrients, fiber and protein that a healthy and balanced diet provides.
