Let's talk about donuts. Deliciously sweet donuts, candy and jam. It's great, right? But you don't need us to tell you that they are not a good option for breakfast. Besides being high in saturated fat and sugar (donuts are fried, in case you didn't know!), and fairly low in healthy things like fiber and vitamins, donuts are definitely a treat. The problem is that they are sold in cafes, and when do we tend to go to them more? Breakfast! They sit there, looking so lovely and round and donut-like, drawing us in through the glass. We may decide to eat a donut instead of yogurt and granola if we're feeling particularly tired, stressed, or emotional. Instead of staying full until lunchtime, we'll hit that familiar sugar rush after eating a donut, and then we will crash when our blood sugar levels drop again soon after.
