11. Azawakh

The Azawakh, also known as the Sloughi or Arabian Greyhound, is a rare North African sighthound. Their long, lean legs give them impressive speed. Azawakhs are among the rarest breeds in the United States. They are alert and charming with strangers but reserved with family. Their melancholy expression matches their quiet, shy nature. Originating in the Sahel region, these sighthounds were valued for their speed and endurance in desert hunts. Their slim build and deep chest make them stand out. Their short, silky coats come in fawn, sand, brindle, and white. Azawakhs bond closely with their families and can be protective. They need experienced owners who understand their independent spirit and exercise needs. Though distant at first, they are sensitive and respond best to gentle, consistent training.
