9. Deception Pass, Washington

The historic Deception Pass Bridge connects scenic Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands in Washington State. Named after Captain George Vancouver's famous navigational error in 1792, the bridge crosses a dramatically turbulent strait renowned for powerful tidal currents and dangerously swirling waters.
With two impressive spans rising 180 feet (55 meters) above the churning water, the bridge offers absolutely stunning views of the picturesque San Juan Islands and expansive Puget Sound. Frequently windy conditions and thick fog can make the crossing feel even more intensely dramatic. Originally built in 1935, the bridge has become a genuinely beloved landmark, attracting countless visitors to explore the surrounding spectacular natural beauty.
